ARTIST BIOGRAPHY

E-legul Recordz when abbreviated is E.R.z. The reason for choosing such a name as well as abbreviation is two-fold. 1) When many hear the name "E-legul", they automatically think of the negative word "illegal". These two words may sound the same but there is a difference nonetheless. The name "e-legul" means: labeled as ingenious and creative. Note: You won't find that definition in any other dictionary but mine (haha). On to point number 2) The oustanding letters of E & R together in the three letter abbreviation, E.R.z, should trigger almost instantly the idea of the Emergency Room at a hospital (if not, then the point is lost). Once again, similar to the full name, the abbreviation is almost identical to the first thought that it triggers but only in a positive/deeper sense. Rather than standing for trauma, anxiety, injury, and devastation the abbreviation is merely a representation of the severity and reality of the music we hope to put out. Now mind you, simply because we say severity and reality does in no way mean "danger, doom, sadness, pain, anger", but rather real life issues being delivered using thought-provoking communication thru music. This can range from addressing relationships with God, significant others, family, friends, peers and neighbors alike to addressing why its good to take the time out to enjoy life.
Nevertheless, we are currently an "I" at this point meaning that this (hopeful) label is still in its infant stages of growth.
My name is Dwight Francois, I will be 20 years old on October 13, 2006, and I am the founder of E-legul Recordz Ent. One day soon I can aspire to make my dream come true and make E-legul Recordz an official label. I am looking forward to one day having the capability to branch out into various other communication aspects other than music such as video production, but lets take it step-by-step shall we?...

Our Motto:

In ALL aspects of our work, we strive to create an enjoyable and relatable atmosphere for our audience while instilling a positive vibe and message.

Artist Spotlight
Reprinted from the October '05 issue of The Entertainer
The Entertainer recently had the chance to talk with singer/rapper/songwriter, D-Rock. The resulting question and answer session is provided for your reading enjoyment and musical education.

ENTERTAINER: When did you first become interested in music?

D-ROCK: To be honest, I think I’ve been in love with music since October 13, 1986 (my birth date). To me, music is not a simple interest but a passion. From a little boy I’ve always had the urge to be, in some way, involved musically. Whether it was singing at church, playing the piano, trumpet or drums, music and I have been buddies for as long as I can remember. I do believe my love for music was strongly influenced by my mother. I was told that while in her womb she would make it her duty to sing, whether around the house or at church, simply because she wanted me to grow up and become a singer in church. Words cannot express my gratitude to her for making such an intelligent and creative decision.

ENTERTAINER: What is the style of music that you play?

D-ROCK: My music comes from a variety of styles. Actually, I have an interesting mix—I would have to say that my primary influence is R&B and Hip Hop. I was born in Castries, St. Lucia and raised in St. Croix U.S. Virgin Islands, which are islands located in the Caribbean, for half of my life. Because of my background, in some of my music I incorporate Dance Hall (which is a Caribbean flavor, used by artists such as Sean Paul, Elephant Man, and Rihanna) and I also fuse in a little bit of Gospel because I am a church boy. Overall, though I enjoy having fun and being pumped up, Dance Hall style, I much rather do slow, heartfelt, and thought provoking music that deals with real life issues—especially relationships, thus the R&B/Gospel/Hip Hop flavor.

ENTERTAINER: What are you currently working on?

D-ROCK: Ha ha! That is a very good question! What am I working on (thinks to self in a puzzling manner)? Just kidding! I’m actually starting “anew” you could say. My gears have shifted into doing Christian music. Right now I’m working on completing my first single, Worth It which will be available for download by mid-October on my Myspace site (www.myspace.com/elegulrecordz) and also on The Entertainer Newspaper’s website as well. I’m currently working with, in my opinion, Tri-Cities’ and the surrounding areas’ best producer, Brook Floyd at Rainmaker Studios, and I am also hoping to work with some other local artists around before the completion of my album which will be released hopefully by January 07’—depending on funding.

ENTERTAINER: What has been your greatest memory as musicians?

D-ROCK: My greatest memory is when I called up my friend to feature him on a Valentine’s Day song for the ladies of all the surrounding high schools on the day before Valentine’s Day back in February of last year. By the end of the night it went from simply doing a solo song to doing one with three other guys. Now, mind you, the recording, the collaboration and the little bit of extra cash from selling the song at school wasn’t the memorable part of this occasion. The exquisite young lady that I met that Valentine’s Day, who I excitedly call my fiancé today, is the reason why this musical endeavor was so memorable.

ENTERTAINER: What does the future hold for your career?

D-ROCK: To be honest, I am really unsure about that because of 1) my location isn’t necessarily ideal for creating a “career” in music and 2) because of my new young family I am not able to be as flexible as I would need to really be able to truly pursue a career in music. This is both because of time and especially because of monetary constraints. I would love nothing more than to be involved with music on a full-time basis but unfortunately, like everyone else I have bills to pay and mouths to feed and that opportunity simply hasn’t come knocking at my door yet.

ENTERTAINER: Is there anything else you’d like to add?

D-ROCK: If you enjoy what you hear and you’re interested in sponsoring/investing, have questions/comments, or would simply like to converse, feel free to email me at e-legul_recordz@hotmail.com and/or visit my Myspace page at www.myspace.com/elegulrecordz. Thank you for all of your support. I would also like to thank The Entertainer Newspaper for giving me this opportunity to share with you, the readers. God Bless!

ENTERTAINER: Thanks go to D-Rock for giving us this opportunity to get to know him and his music. The Entertainer wishes him the best in all his musical endeavors!
