Razzle Dazzle really did ring in the New Year with never a dull moment. This year was our 25th annual celebration and was held at The AmeriSuite Hotel in Pasco, adjacent to TRAC. Tickets were a sold out item by the end of November, being the largest attendance for our annual Razzle Dazzle New Years event—Gotta

Dance style! The highlights of the event were our dance celebrities, Buddy and Laurie Schwimmer from Los Angeles (a truly professional couple that we have had the honor to bring to the Tri-Cities on numerous occasions). As I said, it is never a dull moment with Buddy and Laurie present and we are forever grateful to them for joining our 25th New Years Celebration. Rest assured we are already planning to bring the two of them to the Tri-Cities for another exciting dance venture for your enjoyment!

Dancing With The Stars
As many of you already probably know, this TV show is once again being shown and I would like to profile two ballroom dances, namely the Waltz and The Foxtrot. There are distinct differences in these two dances and I will try to explain their character and music style for you.

American Waltz Profile
The Waltz has been around since the 1700’s and has been very popular at anniversaries, dances and weddings. The timing goes something like this: 123-456 and so on. For a starter, there is a simple step, easy to learn, known as a Box Step and it’s style is called Stationary Movement. If the dance floor is crowded, this style of dance is appropriate and a bit more social. The Traveling Waltz moves counter-clockwise on the dance floor with lots of patterns to help keep the dancers moving. Needless to say, the couples need more room to execute their dance steps. It has a beautiful flowing movement and it’s well worth learning.

American Fox Trot Profile
This Ballroom Dance has been around since 1913, and it is most popular because it is easy to learn with many selections of Fox Trot tempos. The count for beginner steps is (slo, slo, quick, quick) and is also executed with a counter-clockwise movement on the dance floor. Patterns would include Chasse’, Twinkles, and Grapevines, etc. The Fox Trot is a very smooth flowing formal movement and as stated above, it’s well worth learning!

Gotta Dance Highlights
Many ongoing students taking our monthly classes, (Mon. and Thurs. nights,) during January 2006 seem to be having a great time learning new steps or refreshing their memories. Our February classes will include Swing, Latin and Rhythm workshops. All dances, each in their own style, are a great form of exercise, mentally and physically, and will introduce you to a great form of social couple sport like no other—healthy enjoyable fun for a life time.

Super Saturday Night Fever is an ongoing dance event available to singles and couples every Saturday night at the Pasco Red Lion from 6pm to 8:30pm with Bob Horne as your D.J. Gotta Dance will be bringing more events your way and we will keep you posted. Now that you have already started, keep on having a happy new year. Live, laugh, dance!
