Let’s Dance For Fun In 2006
Reprinted from January 2006 Issue

-by PAT HORNE
Get ready, get set Gotta Dance! Put on your dancin’ shoes and let’s dance into the new year! In previous issues of The Entertainer, I have profiled two of the swing dances, (namely East Coast and West Cost Swing and then on to two Latin Dances, (namely Rumba/Salsa and Cha Cha). This first month of January, we would like to share with you the profiles of Club Swing, Night Club 2-step and New York Hustle. You can see for yourself, on any given weekend, dancers executing all three of these dances at The Pasco Red Lion, from 6pm to 8:30pm. It is a happy feeling to see our students (present and past), enjoying themselves dancing these great club dances. Come see for yourself on a Saturday evening and have an enjoyable night if only to watch—no pressure—just fun!

Contemporary 4-6-8 Club Swing
This Club Dance is the very easiest dance style to learn as a beginner. The patterns are swing style and graduate into more complex moves which become more fun to learn and execute on the dance floor! As mentioned before, we will be teaching the 4 and 6 Count Club Swing in January. A bit of history about the dance; Bob and I introduced this dance to the Tri-Cities in 1978. At that time, we were teaching disco which was the dance favorite for many people at the time (it can be seen even today at the popular Pasco Red Lion on Saturday Nights between 6 and 8:30pm.)

About a year later the national pro’s introduced the New York Street Hustle using many of the same dance patterns as the four count. The Hustle is a quick step (and 1-2-3 step) and a bit harder to learn because it is and can be to a very high tempo. It is easier to learn the Club 4 count first and then move into the Hustle count.

Romantic Nite Club 2-Step
Again, this wonderful dance is so versatile and popular all over the world. Originated by Buddy Schwimmer, we learned it from him way back in the 70’s. Bob and I immediately fell in love with it’s original style and have passed it on to our students to enjoy for many years. To know the Nite Club 2-Step is to love it. We will also be teaching the Night Club 2-Step in January with two levels of instruction. This popular dance is surely one of the most practical and versatile social club dances conceived in today’s dance world. There is also a Latin version.

Suitable music is available almost everywhere and people who are beginners or more advanced, love to dance to it. Come see for yourself on a Saturday evening (6pm to 8:30pm) at the Pasco Red Lion. Hope you show up for our January series of Dance Instruction to be held at the Richland Community Center. Our fun filled class begins at 7:30pm. Call Pat for more information at 547-9647. You’ll be glad you did!
