Hey, what’s new? I thought I would relay to you “a part of a lesson” for your personal interest. Students constantly are asking how to do certain patterns. It occurred to me that this article would be a great way to explain the structure of a “Swing Dance” that is ever so popular with our students. Bear in mind that most Swing patterns can be interchanged into other various dances. If you are new to dancing, this concept could be a bit much. So for our purposes here, let’s stay with the basics. There is an old saying that applies here, “one must walk, before one can run!”

Ladies and Gentlemen begin with a 2 hand hold position, (facing each other.) With the man staying in place, he leads the lady into an outside underarm turn. The lady begins a turn to her right, by going under the arch made by the mans left arm and her right arm.
The lady performs her turn, as the man turns to his left. This move puts the couple in a parallel position (lady in hammerlock position, her left hand behind her back.) This turn ends with the ladies right arm straight across the mans chest.

To exit this pattern the man raises his left hand while the lady unwinds by turning left (counter clockwise), to face the man (Whew! It’s much easier to do then to write about!). Hopefully you can follow these directions or better yet, take our May Gotta Dance Classes where we will be presenting this pattern in East Coast Swing.

Our other May Bonus Gotta Dance Class will be the Waltz. We have many requests for this beautiful dance. It’s great for weddings, anniversaries, cruises and other various dance events! Gotta Dance Classes sellout early so call soon for reservations at 547-9647.

Gotta Dance Ultimate Dance Event, 2006
Our Holiday 2 Dance Gala will be presented on Friday, August 18th and Saturday, August 19th, featuring Swing Spectaculists, Buddy and Laurie Schwimmer from Los Angeles. Buddy is known as “King of Swing” and of course, his beautiful wife Laurie, compliments his every dance move.

This very affordable weekend event will take place at The AmeriSuites Hotel in Pasco, with the “Best of the Best” D.J. Terry West from Seattle! Our 2 night Gala will be a very social dinner and dance event. You are invited to attend and enjoy the many aspects of dance with Buddy, Laurie and Terry West. We promise you will love the grand buffet and the dance shows. In keeping with the Gotta Dance tradition, whatever we can put together for your dancing enjoyment!

We suggest making reservations early. Just call Pat Horne at 547-9647 and get all the answers to questions that may conern you.

I’m thinking of next month, here in The Entertainer, to give you yet another dance pattern, but remember our classes every Thursday and Monday. That is your best opportunity for learning how to have some real fun dancin’. Why not join us for your fun dance experience?
