Get Your Teen a Great Music Industry Education in Free Summer Camp
Its hard to imagine a teenager that doesnt love some form of music, but if your child is more industrious than the average groupie, s/he may be a great candidate for Noise!, a summer program for teens who want a future in the music business.
When people think of the music industry, they generally focus on performance and maybe composition or education. But there are many careers in the music industry. Noise! educates teens in careers that are vital to the music business that dont get as much attention.
In this two week program, 32 students, ages 15-17, meet professionals in the music industry, learn about career planning, and visit music businesses in Los Angeles. The experience is geared toward teens who want to learn about careers relating to music that are sometimes obvious, like that of a record producer, disc jockey, songwriter or sound technician, and sometimes less obvious, like the career of a video director, graphic designer, music lawyer, or music photographer
The application process involves essay writing, letters of recommendation, and sending high school transcripts or a recent report card, but the work is worth it. Students that are accepted need to pay for transportation to and from L.A., but the classes, food, and lodging are all covered by scholarship.
More information and an application are available on http://noise.muzak.com (click the on air icon on the homepage). Applications must be received by May 15.
Even teens that dont participate from the program can benefit from learning about it. Clicking the head icon on the home page and/or looking over the careers listed on the application, will introduce them to new ways of directing their love of music into practical careers. |
